Rochester is the largest city within the county and is mostly surrounded by rural farmland; the major industries are agriculture, medical services and technologies.
A significant demographic shift has occurred in this community which is now home to an increasing number of African American, Asian and Hispanic population. This shift has followed a significant increase in the overall population (71%) since 1970, following an economic windfall from growing medical industries. This has also resulted in a stark shift in the wealth and skills gaps of residents as well as the availability of job opportunities.
